An exhibition, "The Sea, Holidays, Dances", by Stefka Aroyo will open on January 23 at the Union of Bulgarian Artists Gallery. The exhibition will on February 8, organizers say.
The team says that a long-awaited and cherished meeting with one of her sons in early 2024 brought Stefka Aroyo out of the creative block that had gripped her in recent years and spurred her desire to paint. "Not for an exhibition, but to live as an artist, to paint," they note.
In the exhibition, Aroyo presents all 19 paintings painted since early 2024 and seven older works. As a link between the more distant period in her work and the most recent paintings, she is presenting three paintings owned by the National Gallery - "Still Life with Vase," "Our Neighbors" and "Nestinarka," the organizers said.
Stefka Aroyo graduated in painting at the Academy of Arts in Sofia in 1977 in the class of Prof. Dobri Dobrev. From 1985 to 1999 she was curator at the Art Gallery for Foreign Art. He lived and painted in various European cities - Karlsruhe, Germany (1987 - 1989), Grenoble, France (1992 -1993), Bilbao, Spain (1995 - 1996), Getxo-Algorta, Spain (1999 - 2006). Her paintings are in the National Gallery in Sofia, as well as private collections in Austria, Germany, Japan, England, France, Spain, Bulgaria.
