site.btaPublic Financial Inspection Agency Completes 156 Inspections, Checks in Q4 of 2024
The financial inspectors of the Public Financial Inspection Agency (PFIA) completed 156 financial inspections and checks in the last quarter of 2024, the PFIA said on Thursday. Of these, 104 were requested by the Finance Minister and 19, by the prosecution service. The PFIA checked 452 public procurement procedures worth BGN 326,605,813 and a total of 1,816 contracts worth BGN 255,269,977.
The inspectors established 379 violations and issued 214 statements of administrative violations. Most were violations of the Public Procurement Act, the Financial Management and Control in the Public Sector Act, the Accountancy Act, the Public Finances Act as well as statutory instruments of secondary legislation.
The PFIA also established 42 public procurement procedures worth BGN 21,838,865 that were conducted without reason or not conducted when they should have been.
A total of BGN 881,175 were not spent as required, and the inspections restored BGN 276,000 in the budget. Actions have been taken to restore the rest of the funds in accordance with the Public Financial Inspections Act. Damage worth BGN 1,288,580 was established during the inspections, of which BGN 129,997 were restored.
The biggest share of inspections were carried out in municipalities (70%), followed by companies with state or public participation in the capital (15%), other state or public budget spenders (11%), ministries (3%), and other sites (1%).
The PFIA publishes on its website the reports on its financial inspections' results following amendments to the Public Financial Inspection Act made in February 2024.
