The 24 Chasa daily is hosting a ceremony on Friday to recognize the best Bulgarian universities. The event will be held for the ninth time at the NV Tower in Sofia, the organizers said.

The awards are based on the rating system of higher education institutions in Bulgaria, an annual ranking commissioned by the Education and Science Ministry and a consortium that includes the Open Society Institute and the Sirma Group.

EU Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva, the rectors of the universities that have topped the ranking, as well as business representatives are invited to attend the ceremony. The event will also welcome Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences President Evelina Slavcheva, former Bulgarian Education and Science Ministers since 1990, and distinguished students.
