After a secret vote, the Committee of the Foreign Press Association (FPA) in London elected Bulgarian journalist Vasil Hristov as FPA President, Hristov himself announced the news on Facebook. He is taking over the role from the outgoing President, Dagmar Seeland, a journalist with the German magazine Stern.
The Foreign Press Association in London is the oldest journalistic organization in the world, founded 137 years ago. It brings together foreign journalists from across the globe in one of the most prestigious professional clubs. Every year, the FPA presents journalism awards in 10 categories, recognizing the best the profession has to offer, Hristov recalled.
"My grandfather used to say that modesty is a virtue for those who have no others. After nearly 25 years of building my experience as a journalist, the recognition of colleagues from such diverse countries and world media is what makes me proud of the path I have travelled so far. And, quite immodestly, I will say there is nothing accidental about me being the first Bulgarian to carry the responsibility of being President of one of the world’s most prestigious professional organizations for the next two years," Hristov said.
