The Chief Mufti of Bulgaria, Dr Mustafa Hadzhi, was awarded Ruse Regional Governor's Badge of Honour.

Ruse Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov presented personally the award to Hadzhi for his overall contribution to the promotion of religious tolerance and the preservation of ethnic peace.

"Today, more than ever, it is important to strive for a world where prejudice and hatred give way to respect and understanding. Let's not forget that tolerance is not only a principle that we must observe, it is a force that can really change the world for the better", Draganov emphasised and pointed out that Ruse is one of the brightest positive examples of the importance of ethnic tolerance.

"In a world full of diversity, it is the understanding and acceptance of others that are the foundations on which we can build a fulfilling future. Differences unite us, they don't divide us. Thanks to them, we overcome challenges", Draganov noted, adding that Hadzhi has held the position of Chief Mufti since October 23, 1997.

"I thank the Regional Governor for welcoming us. Ruse is home to tolerant, very hospitable and hardworking people", Hadzhi said, emphasising that Muslims and non-Muslims are very united. "This makes a good impression and sets a good example to all people not only in the country, but also in the world," he added.

"If we look to the West, we will see that people of different ethnicities, although they try to live together, do not have this cohesion. We have lived together for centuries and are used to helping each other without distinguishing who is from what ethnicity and what religion one professes", Hadzhi commented, who will give a lecture to residents of Ruse about the role of religion in people's daily lives.

The ceremony was also attended by Ruse Regional Mufti Yudzhel Hyusnyu.
