President Rumen Radev met Thursday with the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bulgaria Nasri Khalil Salim Abu Jaish. During the meeting, which was held at the initiative of the Bulgarian head of State, Radev welcomed the agreement reached on a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of the hostages. During the conversation, the identified phases concerning the practical implementation of the agreement were also discussed.

Radev expressed hope that the agreement reached will lead to conditions for the urgent provision of the necessary humanitarian assistance to the civilian population of Gaza, while at the same time guaranteeing the unconditional release of all hostages. The two politicians expressed the expectation that in the long term, the practical implementation of the agreement reached would reveal the prospects for the establishment of a lasting peace based on a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on the principle of two states coexisting in full respect for the requirements of international law. In this regard, the possibilities for supporting the reforms set out in the Palestinian Reform and Development Plan in its capacity as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people were also considered.

In light of the stages envisaged in the agreement for the release of the Israeli hostages, specific aspects concerning the process for the release of the two Bulgarian citizens and the crew of the Galaxy Leader, ship who have been held by the Ansar Allah Houthi movement in Yemen for more than a year, were also discussed.
