“Our first tasks are related to restoring the confidence of the state administration so that it can function with motivation,” said newly elected Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov on Thursday during the ceremony of handover and acceptance of power at the Council of Ministers.

“We expect neither tolerance nor mercy because the opposition's job is to criticise and prepare for elections,” Zhelyazkov said.

“As a regularly elected cabinet, it is important for us to rely on parliamentary support. We have made efforts to get broad parliamentary support,” he said.

Zhelyazkov assured that from the first day the government will get down to business.

“We are ending the term in office with satisfaction with the work done,” caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said at the ceremony. “With a clear conscience, we say that we worked in the interest of the State, respecting the Constitution and the laws, and were guided by the interest of the Bulgarian citizens.

“We expect tomorrow or within days to be announced that we meet the last criterion for our accession to the euro area,” Glavchev added.
