The Brazilian literary corner was inaugurated at the Sts Cyril and Methodius National Library, bringing the total number of such corners in the institution to 33, representing countries and national libraries from six continents, the National Library said here on Thursday.
The event marks the 90th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and Brazil.
During the opening of the first literary corner for 2025, Library Director Kalina Ivanova said: "This event clearly shows that embracing the culture, literature, and customs of people from around the world in our national library is a key aspect of our country's cultural diplomacy."
Brazilian Ambassador to Bulgaria Paulo Roberto Campos Tarrisse da Fontoura said: "Brazil and Bulgaria share a strong friendship and are excellent partners." He added that approximately 100 works of Brazilian literature have been translated into Bulgarian, including classics by Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis and contemporary authors like Itamar Vieira Junior.
The ambassador mentioned that the Brazilian literary corner features nearly 60 books, thoughtfully chosen by the Darcy Ribeiro Foundation. This collection covers a range of topics, including Politics, Economics, History, Culture, Literature, and Art. He hopes these books will help Bulgarian readers better understand Brazil and appreciate the friendship between the Brazilian and Bulgarian people, thus strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
