Bulgaria's highest ranked female player Viktoriya Tomova and her teammate Slovakia's Rebecca Sramkova (singles ranking: world No. 49) won their first round match at Australian Open's doubles tournament on Wednesday. They secured a 6-2 7-5 victory over Chinese team Xinyu Jiang and Yafan Wang.

In the next round Tomova and Sramkova will meet Kamilla Rakhimova and Sara Sorribes Tormo.

The Bulgarian lost to world No. 10 Daria Kasatkina in the first round of the singles competition on Tuesday. Thus, Bulgaria will have no representatives in a second round of a Grand Slam singles tournament for the first time since May 2021 as Grigor Dimitrov left the men's draw after an injury in his first round match against Italian Francesco Passaro on Monday.
