The Sofia Municipal Council on Thursday adopted new prices for tickets to the Sofia Zoo.
From February 1, the entrance fee to the zoo will be BGN 5 for a child ticket and BGN 10 for an adult ticket. The fee for the Summer Zoo School will also be raised to 250 BGN for one week. New tickets will also be introduced, including a family ticket for a parent with one child at a price of BGN 20. The ticket for a parent with two or more children will cost BGN 25. Visits with tour guides in Bulgarian and English will not be free anymore, as due to the great interest the zoo could not meet the demand, noted Sofia Zoo Director Dobromir Borislavov.
Borislavov told journalists that the last price update was in 2013. He stated that the zoo's revenue for 2024 was BGN 1.5 million, while the revenues for 2025 are expected be more than BGN 3 million due to the price increase. He emphasised that the increase in revenue is very important, as it will allow the zoo to request more investments from the Sofia Municipality for the zoo's development.
Borislavov stressed that the Sofia Zoo has an educational and environmental function, which requires funds. "We will stop being the cheapest zoo in all of Europe," he said and stated that the Sofia Zoo had almost half a million visitors in 2024. He also noted that work is underway on a project to install photovoltaic panels, which is very important for the zoo.
