Bulgaria to Host Meeting of World Tourism Organization's Regional Commission for Europe
Madrid/Sofia, January 22 (BTA) - Bulgaria will host the 61st Meeting of the World Tourism Organization's (UNWTO) Regional Commission for Europe in 2017, the Tourism Ministry in Sofia reported on Friday. The arrangement was confirmed during talks between UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai and Bulgarian Tourism Minister Nikolina Angelkova in Madrid in the sidelines of FITUR, one of the world's largest tourism fairs.
The Bulgarian delegation to the Spanish capital also included the National Assembly's Budget and Finance Committee Chair Menda Stoyanova, her deputy Diana Yordanova, and Economic Policy and Tourism Committee Deputy Chair Daniela Saveklieva.
Rifai said there are countries which do not pay enough attention to tourism as an important economic sector and need to work consistently to change that. He congratulated Bulgaria on its vigorous activity within the UNWTO, noting that the country has a very good image among the other members.
Rifai and the Bulgarian guests discussed the planning of the First World Congress on Creative Tourism and Ancient Civilizations, which Bulgaria will host at the end of this year.
While in Madrid, Angelkova attended a High-Level Meeting on Tourism and Security, organized by the UNWTO.
