Deputy PM Kuneva Emerges as Only Option for Successor of Education Minister Tanev

Sofia, January 29 (BTA) - The name of Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Kuneva was the only one discussed by the Reformist Bloc (RB) Thursday evening as a possible successor of Education Minister Todor Tanev, the RB's Grozdan Karadjov told reporters in Parliament on Friday.

Following a meeting that lasted some three hours Thursday, the RB failed to propose a replacement for Todor Tanev after Prime Minister Boyko Borrisov asked him to step down along with his whole team amid systemic problems at the Ministry and in the education system.

Tanev had been nominated for the ministerial job by the Reformist Bloc - which explains why asked them to name his successor. Borissov gave them until the end of the day to do so.

According to Karadjov, the RB were taken by surprise by the Prime Minister's decision to replace Tanev and the RB leadership was not forewarned.

He argued that even if Borissov's decision is well-grounded, the matter should have been discussed with the coalition partners.

RB's Korman Ismailov commented for the press after the meeting of the Right-wing coalition that they will be ready with a nomination in the coming days.

The RB gives a high mark to the work of Tanev and his team.
