Sofia, June 6 (BTA) - Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva conferred with Romanian Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu in Bucharest on Wednesday, Zaharieva's Ministry said in a press release.

"The fine cooperation between the two countries on common issues like the lifting of visa requirements for Canada is producing results, and we must continue on the same path," said Zaharieva, who is paying a one-day working visit to the Romanian capital. She conveyed to Grindeanu greetings from Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and an invitation to visit Bulgaria as soon as possible. The host was pleased to accept the invitation.

The two discussed joint projects between the two countries, the opportunities for an invigoration of economic and trade contacts, and Bulgaria's and Romania's preparation for their respective presidencies of the Council of the European Union (January-June 2018 and January-June 2019, respectively).

"We can do better in the economy and tourism by strengthening infrastructure connectivity. Building a new bridge over the Danube at Rousse is an exceedingly important project, as is the opening of two new checkpoints on the land border between Bulgaria and Romania, which are completely ready," the Foreign Minister stressed.

Grindeanu agreed, saying that his Government prioritizes relations with Bulgaria. He expects new projects in energy, transport, health care and environmental protection. "We have common positions on the European agenda," Zaharieva and Grindeanu found. LI/LG
