Prosecutor General Tsatsarov Pays Visit to Azerbaijan

Sofia, June 14 (BTA) - Bulgaria's Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov is paying a two-day working visit to Azerbaijan at the invitation of his counterpart Zakir Garalov, said Tsatsarov's Office on Tuesday. Among the topics discussed were interaction on legal aid cases, perfecting e-services, prosecutors' workload, appraisals and promotion.

Tsatsarov's visit is within the framework of a one-year cooperation agreement, signed between the two countries' prosecuting magistracies.

The prosecuting magistracies' powers go only as far as the court's front door, and its place is in the Judiciary, because it protects the public interest, the Bulgarian chief prosecutor said during the talks, explaining the debates in Bulgaria on thejudicial reform.

Zakirov presented the appraisal system for prosecutors in Azerbaijan, who each year are tested and sit for exams. This allows them to be up-do-date on legislative changes and case law.

Meetings are held as part of the visit with Azerbaijan's Supreme Court President Ramiz Rzayev and Justice Minister Fikrat Mammadov.

A meeting with Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev also took place during the visit. He congratulated Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on his birthday. President Aliyev voiced gratitude before Tsatsarov for the good relations with Bulgaria and presented the institutional changes that are being introduced in Azerbaijan. They include improving the qualification of civil servants in public administration and law enforcement.
