Sofia, January 28 (BTA) - With 152 MPs voting in favour, Parliament unanimously elected Diana Kovacheva Deputy Ombudsman.

Kovacheva was justice minister of Boyko Borissov's first cabinet in 2011-2013 and long-serving executive director of the national chapter of Transparency International. Ombudsman Maya Manolova said her deputy wants to contribute to defending the rights of Bulgarian citizens.

She was nominated by the Transparency International Association and was selected after a public hearing of five candidates nominated by NGOs. Manolova said the nomination was in line her commitment for transparency to Parliament and her pledge to work together with civic organizations.

Answering questions, Manolova said the Ombudsman's register of complaints would go electronic to enable people to follow the progress of their complaints. She said she had been receiving an average of 50 complaints every day, twice as many as in past years.
