Bulgarian Exports Shrink 2% in January-August Y/Y
Sofia, October 10 (BTA) - Between January and August 2016, Bulgaria's exports totalled 29,691 million leva, down by 2 per cent from the like period of 2015, the National Statistical Institute said on Monday.
In August, exports amounted to 3,907.1 million leva, up by 6.1 per cent from August 2015.
In January-August 2016, imports to Bulgaria totalled 32,631.3 million leva (at CIF prices), or down by 3.9 per cent from a year earlier.
In August, total imports increased by 16.4 per cent from this time last year, to 4,420.6 million leva.
The foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) showed a deficit of 2,940.3 million leva between January and August. At FOB prices, the deficit stood at 1,377.2 million leva.
In August, the foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) showed a deficit of 513.5 million leva. At FOB prices, the deficit stands at 287.6 million leva.
Bulgaria's EU Exports Grow by 4.3% in January-July
Between January and July, Bulgaria's EU exports grew by 4.3 per cent from this time last year to 17,496.6 million leva. In July, it increased by 4.4 per cent from July 2015 to 2,817.4 million leva.
In January-July, EU imports contracted by 1 per cent from this time last year and totalled 18,966.4 million leva at CIF prices.
In July, EU imports declined by 4.3 per cent from July 2015, to 2,914.9 million leva.
The foreign trade balance (export FOB - import CIF) with the EU in January - August 2016 showed a deficit of 1,469.8 million leva. At FOB/FOB prices (after elimination of transport and insurance costs on imports) the trade balance was also negative and amounted to 583.6 million leva.
Third-country Exports Down by 13.8% in January-August
In January-August, exports to third country contracted by 13.8 per cent from like period of 2015 to 9,516. 1 million leva. In August, it grew by 0.9 per cent from a year earlier at 1,228.8 million leva.
Exports to Turkey, Macedonia, Serbia, China, Russia and the US accounted for 49.7 per cent of Bulgaria's overall exports to third countries.
Bulgarian imports from third countries dropped by 12.5 per cent in June-August compared to this time last year, reaching 10,892.1 million leva (at CIF prices). The imports were biggest from Russia, Turkey, China and Ukraine.
In August, third country imports grew by 14.3 per cent compared with the like period of 2015 at 1,647.8 million leva.
The foreign trade balance with third countries (FOB export - CIF import) showed a deficit of 1,376 million leva in January-August. It was 837.7 million leva if calculated at FOB prices.
In August, the foreign trade balance (FOB export - CIF import) with third countries showed a deficit of 419 million leva.
