PM Borissov Speaks by Phone to President Macron

Sofia, May 25 (BTA) - In a telephone conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, French President Emmanuel Macron greeted the Bulgarian people on May 24, the Day of Bulgarian Culture, Education and Slav Letters, said the government press office Thursday.

The two leaders exchanged congratulations on their recent election victories and wishes for successful government. Macron said that he would be honoured to work with Borissov and expressed a wish that bilateral cooperation continues to deepen in the best interest of the two economies.

The two sides also discussed the upcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council in 2018. The French President said that his country is ready to provide support during the preparation and in respect of the priorities during the presidency itself.

Migration was another issue the two sides discussed. Prime Minister Borissov said that during the past six months there has been almost zero pressure on the Bulgarian border, and credited it to the security measures being taken and the border fence.

Borissov invited Macron to visit the Bulgarian border and see the situation there for himself.

He also pointed out that European integration remains an irreplaceable priority for Bulgaria and that it will support the common European decisions for a prosperous EU.

President Macron invited Prime Minister Borissov to visit France the soonest possible, said the government press office.
