Sofia, June 1 (BTA) - A total of 460 children have been helped by the Fund for Treatment of Children since January, 328 of which were treated in Bulgaria and 132 abroad, the Fund reported Thursday.

The total sum paid out by the fund for the organizational and financial aspects of treatment amounts to 4,554,829 leva. A total of 1,744,565 have been provided for treatment in Bulgaria and 2,443,278 for treatment abroad. The sum covers expenses related to transport, accommodation and someone accompanying the child. The largest number of children getting treatment abroad were in Germany - 69, followed by Austria - 16, France - 11, Switzerland - 9, Italy - 8, Turkey - 7, Britain - 6, Luxembourg - 5 and the US - 1.

Of the 328 children who were treated in Bulgaria, the largest number of cases were related to neuro-surgical treatment, orthopedics and trauma, as well as children suffering from onco-hematological diseases.

The total revenue collected by the Fund between January and May, 2017 stands at 91,420 leva, 8,473 leva of which are from donations, while the rest come from fines, sanctions and penalties under the Child Protection Act, and other non-tax revenue.
