Sofia, June 2 (BTA) - A fire broke out in the waste treatment plant of Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv Friday morning, said the Interior Ministry. The facility is situated in the nearby village of Shishmantsi. No risk to the population is reported.

An alert for the fire in the plastics unit of the plant was received at 6:30 am. Nine fire engines were rushed to the place and are now trying to suppress the fire.

The competent authorities took measurements of the air quality in the area and no excessive pollution was registered. The fire has created a smoke screen near the 150th km on Trakia Motorway and drivers are ordered to show extra caution when they pass there. LY/LN/
