Young singers from the opera theatre in Daegou, South Korea, will be guest performers in Giacomo Puccini's La Boheme at the Sofia Opera on January 23, 24 and 26, the Sofia Opera said on Thursday. In 2023, the Sofia company presented Richard Strauss's Elektra at South Korea's largest opera festival.
CAST
The first performance, on January 23, will star Arthur Espiritu as Rodolfo, Aleksandrina Mihailova as Musetta, JunWeon Hwang as Marcello, Silvia Teneva as Mimi, Mikhail Motailenko as Schaunard, and Nikolay Voinov as Colline.
On January 24 and 26, SeungYup Han will appear as Rodolfo, YeSol Park as Musetta, JunWeon Hwang as Marcello, Ma Fei as Mimi, and JunMo Park as Colline.
Boian Videnoff is conductor, and Violeta Dimitrova is chorus master. The set design is by Svetoslav Kokalov, and the costumes are designed by Petya Stoykova.
The Talasamche Children's Vocal and Drama Formation, headed by Dimitar Kostantsaliev, take part in the performance.
HISTORY
La Boheme was first performed in Bulgaria in 1922 by the Sofia Opera. The production was conducted by Maestro Georgi Atanasov, and N. D. Vekov was the stage director.
Puccini's opera are distinguished by fascinating tunes and memorable female characters, critics, say. Quite a few of these works are set pieces on the bills of major opera houses worldwide, and the Italian's three greatest operas, La Boheme, Madama Butterfly and Turandot, set an example to the succeeding generation of composers.
