Danish Furniture Retailer to Invest EUR 100 Mln for Building Furniture Distribution Centre in Sofia

Sofia, January 19 (BTA) - A memorandum of intent was signed at the Council of Ministers here on Tuesday between the National Company Industrial Zones (NCIZ) and the Danish JYSK BUL EOOD company. The 100 million euro investment is for the construction of a logistics centre for furniture distribution in the Balkans.

The signing was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Donchev, Economy Minister Bozhidar Loukarski and Danish Ambassador Christian Konigsfeldt. The agreement was signed by NCIZ Executive Director Stefan Staykov and JYSK Executive Vice President Allan Kjaergaard.

The memorandum sets the start of a project to be implemented on the territory of Sofia's Bozhurishte Industrial Zone. It is expected to be opened at the end of 2018.

According to Ambassador Konigsfeldt, the investment is a signal for the international business community that Bulgaria is a favourable destination for such activities. The Danish company will provide training and job opportunities to 500 workers during the construction phase and 200 workers after the site becomes operational.

Minister Loukarski noted that such a big investor as JYSK BUL is the best response to criticisms and the pessimists, who circulate information that Bulgaria is not a good investment destination. According to him, the negotiations with the Danish company have lasted for close to one year, and their successful completion shows that the company finds Bulgaria to be the best place for building such a logistics centre, which will service not only the Balkans, but a large part of Southeast Europe.
