EC Provides EUR 850,000 in Funding for Bulgarian Gas Network Study

Brussels, January 19 (BTA correspondent Nikolay Jeliazkov) - The Bulgartransgaz company will receive 850,000 euro in funding from the European Commission to study the possibilities of upgrading, expanding and servicing the Bulgarian gas transmission network. The study is expected to outline the opportunities for improving gas transmission to and from Greece, Romania, Macedonia and Turkey.

The allocation is part of a 217 million euro package provided by the Commission for 15 energy infrastructure projects in Europe.

The interconnectors linking gas networks in Romania, Bulgaria, Austria and Hungary will also get EU funding. This is an important development for the EU gas market as it will allow gas from the Caspian region and other potential sources, including LNG, to reach Central Europe, the Commission said.
