Petar Dilov was born in Sofia in 1984. Graduate of Sofia's University of National and World Economy. He earned a master's degree in European Business and Finance from Nottingham Trent University in the UK. He went through a series of training programmes at international banking institutions.
Dilov joined the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) in 2011. He advanced there to the position of a leading expert on cooperation with the European Central Bank for Bulgaria's accession to the Single Supervisory Mechanism and Bulgaria's entry into the European Exchange Rate Mechanism II.
He has contributed to the alignment of national legislation to the EU legal framework regulating credit institutions and assessing the regulatory impact on the banking system. He was also involved in all asset quality reviews of the national banking system.
Dilov was part of the Working Party on Financial Services and the Banking Union at the Council of the European Union, addressing the drafting and adoption of EU legislation on risk reduction in the banking sector.
He represented the BNB in the working formats of the European Central Bank and the European Banking Authority.
