GERB Discusses Five Names for Presidential Runner

Veliko Turnovo, Northern Bulgaria, January 23 (BTA) - As at now, GERB is discussing five names for candidates to take part in the presidential elections due later in the year, GERB Deputy Chairman Tsvetan Tsvetanov said here on Saturday. He said that at the moment "it will be not serious to name the concrete people, given that the topic is an open one".

Tsvetanov did not comment whether incumbent President Rosen Plevneliev, who was elected on GERB's ticket, is part of the discussed nominations but said that in his tenure, the head of State has proved that he is broad-minded, able to discuss topics with all nationally responsible parties and to look for consensus in the making of the important strategic decisions.

Tsvetanov said that a candidate nominated by GERB may be supported by other parties and non-governmental organizations who do not have their own runners.

Approached by reporters whether there will be snap parliamentary elections in May, Tsvetanov said he had heard political statements to this effect prior to the October 2015 local elections. "If this is truly the ultimatum that has been set, I can rest assured that in May there are not going to be elections," Tsvetanov said. Democrats for Strong Bulgaria leader Radan Kanev has made a forecast for early elections in May.

In Veliko Turnovo Tsvetanov opened the third political academy of GERB's women's organization.
