Labour Ministry Suggests Declaring Monday Day Off When National Holiday Falls on Weekend

Sofia, October 11 (BTA) - Labour Minister Zornitsa Roussinnova on Tuesday announced pending changes to the Labour Code that will meet the expectations of the business in connection with holiday work off.

Roussinova told journalists that last year three or four Saturdays were declared working days due to holiday bridges and in 2014 they were even more. She said that this prevents the business from making predictable work schedule arrangements.

The Labour Ministry is proposing a fixed number of official public holidays without any extra days off to bridge the holiday. When a national holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the Monday after will be a day off.

Holidays will no longer be compensated through working Saturdays. Roussinova said that this would be useful for both the business and the people as working Saturdays are not always productive enough and pose problems for families with school children on non-school days.

The Minister said that if people wanted a long weekend they could apply for a leave, or each business can make separate arrangements.
