Prosecutors Elect All
4 Representatives to
Supreme Judicial Council

Sofia, June 5 (BTA) - On Sunday, the general assembly of prosecutors elected three representatives to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC): Pernik District Prosecutor Plamen Naydenov (485 votes), Georgi Kouzmanov of the Bourgas Appellate Prosecution Office (481 votes) and Daniela Masheva of the Supreme Cassation Prosecution Office (445 votes). The fourth member of the SJC Prosecutors Chamber is former Razgrad District Prosecutor Ognyan Damyanov. He was selected by the drawing of lots on Monday morning, after he and Yassenka Shigarminova of the Plovdiv Appellate Prosecution Office received 440 votes each on Sunday, the election commission said.

Voting began on Saturday, when out of 1,503 sitting prosecutors, 1,185 cast ballots. None of the 12 candidates garnered 50 per cent of the votes, and the election went through to a second round on Sunday in which 1,160 prosecutors took part (of whom 1,087 used the remote electronic voting system and 73 cast paper ballots at Sofia's Palace of Justice). Again, none of the candidates gained 50 per cent of the votes, and the highest vote getters were thus elected. LI/LG
