Greek Authorities Offer Assurance to Avert Further Spread of Farmers' Strikes - Bulgarian Interior Minister

Sofia, February 3 (BTA) - The Greek authorities have assured Bulgaria that they will avert further spreading of the strikes by farmers, Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova said in Parliament on Wednesday, commenting the closures of border checkpoints between Bulgaria and Greece by striking Greek farmers.

Inside Bulgaria, the Interior Ministry is diverting the traffic bound to closed border checkpoints to alternative routes so as to prevent waiting of trucks at the crossings, Buchvarova said.

On Tuesday Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov had a telephone conversation with his Greek counterpart Alexis Tsipras to discuss the problems along the two countries' common border resulting from Greek farmer protests.The matter was also discussed between the leaders of the Bulgarian Transport Ministry and Greek Ambassador to Sofia Dimosthenis Stoidis.
