Socialists Agree with MRF that No-Confidence Motion Will Be Themed around Healthcare

Sofia, January 21 (BTA) - The parliamentary groups of BSP-Left Bulgaria and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) agreed on Thursday that the planned no-confidence motion against the government will be themed around healthcare.

BSP Chairman Mihail Mikov said the motion will not be only about the vaccines scandal. "We will set up working groups to elaborate the reasoning. We will ask other parliamentary groups to join us," Mikov said.

According to MRF Co-Chairman Moustafa Karadayi, the no-confidence vote will play a partly preventive role in view of expected developments in healthcare based on recent legislative changes. Mikov added: "A new policy will be introduced in February concerning additional payments for medicines and we expect that it will create problems for the citizens." New provisions about a basic package and an additional package of medical services will become effective in April, the Socialist leader noted. "Besides that, our colleagues and we have challenged two laws at the Constitutional Court - one of them concerns mainly the division of the citizens into people with socially significant diseases and people who can either wait or pay additional money," he said.

The BSP-Left Bulgaria and the MRF will urge Parliament to debate the vaccines problem. Mikov said the aim is "to alleviate public tensions and uncover the truth." He expects Health Minister Peter Moskov to appear in Parliament later this week in order to be heard out on the matter, which should also be discussed by the lawmakers themselves.

BSP-Left Bulgaria also met with the Bulgarian Democratic Centre (BDC). By Monday, the BDC will decide whether to sponsor the no-confidence motion. BDC Co-Floor Leader Krassimira Kovachka said her group shares much of what the BSP-Left Bulgaria think about healthcare.
