Sofia, July 5 (BTA) - At the personal invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov attended the farewell ceremony for Simone Veil at Les Invalides in Paris on Wednesday, the Government Information Service said.

Veil (1927-2017) passed away on June 30 at age 89. She was the first female president of the European Parliament (1979-1982) and was one of the most popular and broadly trusted public figures in France, a veteran politician and activist, and a staunch champion of European integration. An Auschwitz death camp survivor, she served as Minister of Health (1974-1979) and Minister of Health, Social Affairs and the City (1993-1995). She was Member of the European Parliament (1979-1993), where she chaired the Liberal Democrat Group (1984-1989), and member of France's Constitutional Court (1998-2007).
