Bulgarian Leaders Eulogize Late German Chancellor Kohl

Sofia, June 17 (BTA) - On Saturday, Bulgarian leaders eulogized former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl who passed away on Friday.

In his official Facebook page, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev described Kohl as "a politician of the generation of visionaries with will power who found a bloodless way out of the Cold War". "To the Germans, he is the chancellor of the reunification. To Europeans, he is one of the architects of new Europe," the Bulgarian head of State writes.

"A politician of constructive compromise and dialogue, Helmut Kohl will go down in history as a role model of supranational thinking in the name of paramount values. We Bulgarians will also remember him as one of the leaders who opened up the European perspective to Bulgaria," Radev pointed out.

In an address to Bundestag President Norbert Lammert, National Assembly Chairman Dimiter Glavchev offered sincere condolences on Kohl's passing, the Parliamentary Press Centre said.

"Helmut Kohl played an instrumental role for the end of the Cold War and for German reunification. He devoted his life to the strengthening of democratic institutions in his country and beyond its borders," Glavchev wrote.

"Heartfelt condolences to the family of Helmut Kohl," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov tweeted. "Incredibly influential and important figure for modern day Europe."
