Bulgarian Foreign Minister Tells Her Balkan Counterparts There Is No Alternative to European Prospects for the Region

Dubrovnik, June 30 (BTA) - Addressing a meeting of heads of state and government of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in Dubrovnik, Croatia on Friday, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva said there is no alternative to the European prospects for the Balkan countries, said the Foreign Ministry.

This is one of the final meetings (June 29-30) of the Croatian SEECP C before it rotates to Slovenia. Zaharieva is in Dubrovnik together with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and with the Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council in 2018 Liliyana Pavlova.

The Bulgarian Foreign Minister also said that her country will do its best during its Presidency of the EU Council, and will put much effort to make this prospect more tangible.

She underscored the role of the SEECP forum for political dialogue among the countries in the region and said it is one of the major accomplishments in respect to multilateral cooperation in the past two decades.

She praised the consistency of priorities among the former, present and future holders of the SEECP chairmanships, and said that the three main components: transport, energy and social policy, are a step to making the region more attractive to foreign investment.

Zaharieva said that the SEECP makes it possible for Southeast Europe to have its voice heard. Right now, the SEECP is the leading political format for cooperation in Southeast Europe and a factor of security, stability and prosperity in the region, the Minister added.
