Vratsa, Northwestern Bulgaria, July 3 (BTA) - The turbo generator of the 1,000 Unit 5 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant was taken off stream on Monday at the N-plant's request, the facility said in a press release.

The shut-down was prompted by a need to replace electric fuses in the exciter chains of the turbo generator and has been coordinated with the Electricity System Generator.

The turbo generator is located in the conventional (non-radioactive) section of the unit, the press release specifies.

The move does not affect nuclear and radiation safety, and the radiation situation in the area of the N-plant is unchanged. The Nuclear Regulatory Agency has been notified of the shut-down. For the duration of the replacement of the fuses, the power output of the Unit 5 reactor was lowered to 40 per cent in accordance with technological requirements.

The other 1,000 MW Unit 6 of the Kozloduy N-plant operates at 96 per cent capacity.
