Bulgaria, Bavaria Expand Interaction in Counterterrorism, Illegal Migration Control

Sofia, January 21 (BTA) - Bulgaria and Bavaria will expand their interaction in combating terrorism and bringing illegal migration under control, according to a Declaration on Police Cooperation that Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova and Bavarian Interior, Building and Transport Minister Joachim Herrmann signed here on Thursday.

The guest is paying a two-day visit to Bulgaria at Buchvarova's invitation. He is scheduled to confer with President Rosen Plevneliev and Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

"We are working with the Bavarian police in various fields, and sharing experience is important within the context of the migration wave. Tightened border control is our top priority," the Deputy PM recalled.

"We want to broaden our contacts and work jointly in people's interest," Herrmann pointed out, explaining that international police cooperation is essential for success of the effort to suppress human trafficking, forced prostitution, narcotics distribution and the other types of crime.

"The possibility of Bulgaria becoming a buffer zone for the refugee flow has not been considered, and I don't see any reasonable grounds for this happening," Buchvarova said, replying to a question.
