Government Eases Requirements
for Hiring Workers from
Third Countries
Sofia, June 8 (BTA) - Between 4,000 and 6,000 members of the Bulgarian communities in Ukraine, Moldova and other former Soviet republics have signed preliminary contracts and wait for the regulations to start work in the Bulgarian resorts, Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov told journalists here on Thursday. He spoke after the Council of Ministers adopted amendments to the Regulations for Application of the Labour Mobility and Labour Migration Act easing requirements for the hiring of manpower from third countries. The Regulations are expected to enter into force on June 12 or 13, Simeonov added.
He noted that the Bulgarians from Ukraine and Moldova will not meet the labour demand for the forthcoming tourist season, which is estimated at over 25,000, but will be a good step taken by the State in support of business. "These foreign workers will not take the jobs of Bulgarians because the sector is understaffed," the Deputy PM commented. He noted that the workers from Ukraine and Moldova hold the requisite certificate for finished courses or schools qualifying them to work as waiters and cooks. PK/LG
