Sculptures by Georgi Georgiev, collected in the exhibition "Angels and Demons", will be on display at Sofia's Nuance Gallery from March 26 to April 13, the organisers said here on Wednesday.

Georgiev has created monumental compositions in various countries, including China, but he continues his creative path in Bulgaria.

"His plastic language is highly characteristic. Often the references the artist makes are recognizable and intended as an homage to the artists who inspired him. There is movement, lightness and a multitude of symbols in his work that succinctly manage to tell a complex and often philosophical narrative. Perhaps this is what makes his images so soulful. His sculptures often seem like characters from an imaginary world, in which space and flesh refract to build a visualisation of poetry," say the organisers.

"Years ago, Henry Moore had said that art is a counterpoint to evil. You do not need to know how, you do not need to know where or why... you just have to do your own little thing... If I have managed to answer some questions with my sculptures, it has been worth it, if not it is still worth it because I am sure of at least one thing. The love of good will save the world," says Georgiev.

Georgiev was born in Ruse in 1974. He graduated in wood carving at the Art High School in Teteven, then studied sculpture at the University of Veliko Tarnovo. He received his Master's degree at the National Academy of Art. He works on figurative compositions with classical materials (stone, wood, metal), has had numerous solo exhibitions and participated in a number of international symposia, general national exhibitions and sculpture competitions.
