Stanislav Belovski presents his exhibition "The House of the Setting Sun" from today until April 5 at Doza Gallery in Sofia, the organizers announced here on Tuesday.

The exhibition features over 20 works created in the past year and a half, showcasing both the artist’s signature large-scale formats and more intimate pieces. Belovski employs analogue collage, drawing, and acrylic on canvas, incorporating materials such as cement, 1970s ceramic tiles, and vintage sewing magazines.

Similar to his 2022 project Nostalgic Dystopia, Belovski explores the fabric of the urban environment beyond reality, in an alternate time and space. However, this time he populates his imagined cityscapes with human figures—fashion silhouettes from the 1970s and 1980s—constructing his visionary city plans from sewing patterns.

"This exhibition stems from my personal urge to escape the present urban environment—not just to another place, but to another time. It turns out this sentiment resonates with people of different ages and cities, along with a shared concern about humanity’s place in the near future," Belovski said.

Born in 1976, Belovski is a multidisciplinary artist based in Sofia. Since 2018, he has gained recognition for his artistic interventions in urban spaces. In 2023, the Sofia Arsenal – Museum of Contemporary Art hosted his solo exhibition "I Had to Do Something…", dedicated to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
