Undeclared currency worth BGN 122,767 levs was intercepted by the customs officers at the Kaptain Andreevo border crossing after an inspection of an outbound truck, the Customs Agency said on Wednesday.
On March 18, a Turkish-plated tractor-trailer arrived at the border crossing, travelling from Germany via Bulgaria and Turkiye to Georgia. The driver, a Turkish national, presented regular documents for the transported goods - cosmetic products. Under a risk analysis method, the truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection. Officers found euro bills in white paper envelopes and wrapped in film in a cavity in the driver's cabin. A search of the driver found undeclared currency in his jacket pockets and wallet. The total amount of the undeclared currency was EUR 62, 770, equivalent to BGN 122 767.
Pre-trial proceedings have been opened under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office in Haskovo.
