Prominent Bulgarian journalist Damyan Obreshkov has passed away on Wednesday, the Union of Bulgarian Journalists said.

Damyan Obreshkov was born on September 1, 1929, in the village of Dobrevtsi, near the central Bulgarian town of Tryavna. He began his journalism career at the Narodna Mladezh [People’s Youth] newspaper and later worked for Pogled [Outlook], Otechestven Front [Fatherland Front], and the Trud daily newspaper. In total, he had 40 years of experience in the press, television, and radio.

He became the editor-in-chief of Trud in 1982. In 1987, he published Georgi Tambuev’s investigative series Corruption Dressed in Power. As a result, Obreshkov was dismissed but was later reinstated and remained at the newspaper’s helm until 1991.
