The Bulgarian community in Moldova has received three out of five buses donated by Varna Municipality. One of the buses was officially handed over to the town of Tvarditsa in Taraclia District.

The head of the Bulgarian Municipality in Moldova (BMM), Georgi Barbarov, presented the keys to a 40-seater Mercedes bus to the local municipality. The donated vehicle is expected to improve access to education, healthcare, and cultural institutions, the BMM said.

Barbarov said that the buses were not brand new, adding that they were in operation in Varna for 25 years before being replaced by new electric buses worth EUR 500,000 – “a cost we cannot afford”. “Originally, we were offered nine buses, and Moldovan specialists selected five. The buses underwent checks to ensure they are fit for service. The fact that they do not look new does not mean they are not serviceable,” Barbarov said.

Five Mercedes buses were donated to the Bulgarian Municipality in Moldova by Varna Municipality through the Association of Bulgarians around the World (ABC). Contributing to the initiative were the head of the World Parliament of Bulgarians with the ABC and Mladost Mayor, Hristo Hristov, Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, and businessman Ivan Benev, who helped provide the fuel for the buses' transportation to Moldova.

The remaining buses are scheduled to be distributed to Taraclia region, Cantemir, and Parcani in Transnistria.
