A 52-year-old man with a cerebral hemorrhage was airlifted from Gotse Delchev to the St. Anna University Hospital in Sofia, Ivan Skenderov Hospital in Gotse Delchev said on Wednesday.
Due to poor weather conditions, the initially requested air ambulance service failed to take place on Tuesday. Early Wednesday morning, the helicopter landed at the city stadium, and a medical team organized the patient's emergency transfer to Sofia, the hospital added.
The patient is in a coma after a ruptured aneurysm and has already been admitted to the neurosurgery department of St. Anna University Hospital, Dr. Angel Tongov, Deputy Director of Ivan Skenderov Hospital, told BTA.
He added that since the beginning of the air ambulance service, this is the sixth case of transporting a patient from Gotse Delchev by helicopter.
