A total of 200 Bulgarian students achieved maximum results in the Kangaroo Global Linguistics (KGL), an international English Language contest, the organizers from the Cambridge Schools Association in Bulgaria announced on Wednesday.

The KGL Contest Olympiad is being held for nineteenth consecutive year. The first stage was held in Bulgaria on February 15 at 159 schools and language centers around the country. More than 8,000 children and youngsters 8 to 18 years old took part in contest, offered at levels Pre-A1, A1, A2, B1, and B2, ensuring that students are assessed at the appropriate level in alignment with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The school round encompassed 53 towns, the students demonstrated their skills in English grammar, vocabulary and understanding.

The event gives a possibility to youngsters to compete with their peers in Bulgaria at the school and national stage, and the winners will continue their participation at the international level competing with students from other countries, the Association stated.

“The KGL Contest gathers thousands of young people who want to improve their language skills. The great results of our contestants in the first stage show how much effort the students put into their preparation and the high language education level in Bulgaria. Last year at the final, on a global level, students from Bulgaria won first place in level A1 and third place in level B2. This proves that Bulgarian children are not only prepared, but they are also competitive at the global level,”  said Vladimir Kolev, managing director of the Cambridge Schools Association in Bulgaria.
