Household loans increased by 20.8%, and deposits by 11.9% at the end of January year on year, according to Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) data published on the central bank's website on Tuesday.
Household deposits and deposits by non-profit organizations serving households were BGN 89.658 billion (42% of GDP) at the end of January, which is an increase of 11.9% compared to the same month in 2024 (11.8% annual growth in December 2024).
Deposits by non-financial enterprises (the so-called real sector) were BGN 46.466 billion (21.7% of GDP) and compared to January 2024 increased by 8.1% (7% annual increase in December 2024).
Deposits by financial enterprises decreased by 10.6% on an annual basis in January (10.1% annual increase in December 2024) and at the end of the month reached BGN 3.841 billion (1.8% of GDP).
At the end of January, deposits of the non-governmental sector (non-financial, financial enterprises, households and non-profit organizations serving households were BGN 139.964 billion (65.5% of GDP), with their annual increase being 9.9% (10.1% annual increase in December 2024).
BNB data show that at the end of January, loans to the non-governmental sector were BGN 104.607 billion (48.9% of GDP) compared to BGN 103.300 billion as of December 2024 (51.6% of GDP). In January, they increased by 15.4% on an annual basis (14.7% annual increase in December 2024).
Loans to non-financial corporations increased by 11.5% on an annual basis in January (10.1% annual increase in December 2024) and at the end of the month reached BGn 49.368 billion (23.1% of GDP).
Loans to households and non-profit organizations serving households were BGN 46.902 billion (21.9% of GDP) at the end of January, increasing by 20.8% compared to the same month in 2024 (20.8% annual increase in December 2024).
Housing loans amounted to BGN 26.044 billion and increased by 29.3% year-on-year (29.1% year-on-year increase in December 2024).
Consumer loans amounted to BGN 19 billion and increased by 11.9% compared to January 2024 (11.9% year-on-year increase in December 2024). Other loans increased by 25.2% year-on-year (24.1% year-on-year increase in December 2024), reaching BGN 499.8 million.
Loans to employers and self-employed persons increased by 20.2% year-on-year in January (18.1% year-on-year increase in December 2024) and at the end of the month amounted to BGN 543.3 million.
Loans granted to financial enterprises amounted to BGN 8.337 billion. (3.9% of GDP) at the end of January. Compared to January last year, they increased by 10.7% (11.5% annual increase in December 2024).
