A 45-year-old Bulgarian was detained for possession of 30 kg of cocaine in a raid by the prosecution service and the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DGCOC), Sofia District Prosecutor Natalia Nikolova told journalists on Friday. The man has already been charged. The estimated value of the substance is more than BGN 5 million, she said.

The operation was carried out in the area of Petrohan Pass (Northwest Bulgaria), where a truck was stopped. The vehicle was not owned by the driver. The owner of the vehicle was a Bulgarian with several companies who said he had rented the truck and was not from Sofia. So far, several forensic examinations have been made and 15 people have been questioned.

GDCOC Deputy Director Boyan Raev said the raid was carried out on Wednesday. The General Directorate has information on the case from six months ago, and has been actively working on it for four months. He said the drug had come from the EU and was supposed to reach Turkiye.

On March 31, more than 30 kg of cocaine were seized in another raid, Raev said.
