The Bulgarian Ambassador to the US, Georgi Panayotov, met Congressman Jim Costa, representing the State of California in the House of Representatives since 2004 and member of the Bulgaria Caucus in the US Congress, the Bulgarian Embassy said on its Facebook page on Friday.

A descendant of Portuguese immigrants, Jim Costa is a Democrat and a member of the Subcommittee on Europe in the Foreign Relations Committee and the Agriculture Committee. The Congressman is a fierce defender of democratic principles, with a strong proactive position on the war in Ukraine, the Middle East, the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Jim Costa is one of the congressmen who lobbied for the American F-16 fighter jets to be provided to Ukraine.

He has visited Bulgaria, including the joint Bulgarian-American military facility in Novo Selo.

At the meeting, he thanked Bulgaria for its support for Ukraine, for its actions to ensure free navigation in the Black Sea, and for its constructive role in the stability of the region, the Embassy said.
