Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov has instructed the prosecution service to act on numerous media reports about various offences and/or crimes, including spending of public funds and match fixing, allegedly committed by the leadership of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) and its President Borislav Mihaylov, the prosecution service said on Friday.

The Sofia City Prosecution Office will conduct a probe into facts and circumstances related to the BFU's activity in recent years. The prosecutors will request information from the Youth and Sports Ministry and the National Revenue Agency, among others.

The prosecution service will keep the public updated about the probe and its findings.

Earlier on Friday, Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria co-leader Kiril Petkov and GERB leader Boyko Borissov demanded Mihaylov's resignation. About 3,000 football fans gathered in Sofia on Thursday to protest against the BFU leadership while the Bulgarian internationals were playing a European qualifier against Hungary in a closed-door match.
