Bulgarian Greco-Roman wrestler Kiril Milov dropped out in the first round of the repechage for the bronze in the 130 kg category at the Olympic wrestling tournament in Paris.

Milov lost by 4:6 points to the number two ranked eight-time African champion and bronze medallist from the last World Championships in Belgrade 2023 Abdellatif Mohamed (Egypt).

Mohamed took the first point due to his opponent's passivity, but the 27-year-old Bulgarian, who traditionally competes at 97kg and had a serious weight deficit compared to his opponent, was able to make a grapple and turn it around to 4-1. A little later Milov tried to make another grab, but this time the Egyptian defended and counterattacked, which brought him 4 points and he led again 5:4 before the end of the first part. In the second, Mohamed added another point for pushing his opponent off the mat, which brought him the final victory.

The African will thus meet the third-ranked Meng Lingzhe (China) in a direct clash for the bronze Tuesday evening.

On Monday, Milov lost in the heavyweight eight-finals to Pan-American champion Yasmani Acosta Fernandez (Chile), who subsequently qualified for the final.

Aik Mnatsakanian (77kg) is the second Bulgarian national to take to the mat in the classics later on Tuesday against European champion from Rome 2020 and vice-champion from the last two World Championships Sanan Suleymanov (Azerbaijan).
