site.btaMusical Ghost Premieres at Varna Summer Theatre With Actress Militsa Gladnishka in Main Role

The musical Ghost by the Varna State Opera will premiere at the Summer Theatre in the seaside city on Wednesday. Actress Militsa Gladnishka will perform the role of Oda Mae Brown and noted that this opportunity is a great pleasure and an incredible gift in her artistic journey.

"Gospel is a brilliant model of talking to God about all the questions and torments you have and it allows for great improvisation, as it is in jazz, which I have been singing for so many years", Gladnishka said. She recalled how she received an offer to participate in the production from director Srebrina Sokolova and only then saw the film of the same name from 1990. "I had no idea that this musical existed. After that I heard the two songs of my character, I saw the movie and I said that I have both feet in the show", shared the actress and added that in Ghost the music is exceptional and it plays very well with the styles and themes of the different heroes.

She said that in playing the character of Oda Mae, she did not imitate actress Whoopi Goldberg from the film, but "steals" from her, because she and her colleagues on stage strive to be close to the original characters. According to Gladnishka, her heroine contains natural intelligence and is based on the foundations of a good person who, despite the mistakes she has made, understands where the truth lies. 

The actress expressed a high opinion on director Sokolova, who was able to put together such a complex production with a huge set and cast, possessing firmness, but communicating very well with the group. Gladnishka also noted that conductor Stratsimir Pavlov is at a very high level as an instrumentalist, and that choreographer Nadia Dimokova is so dedicated that she performed the dances even while pregnant.

She believes that the plot of Ghost is dedicated to the great love of young people, and promised the audience to experience all kinds of emotions during the performance.
