BSP - United Left MP Kiril Dobrev told Parliament on Friday that his parliamentary group will not allow external interference and will support Rosen Karadimov as the party's nomination for head of the Competition Protection Commission (CPC). Parliament opened the procedure for electing the chairman, deputy chairman and members of the CPC on February 13.

On February 20, BSP – United Left nominated Rosen Karadimov for head of the CPC. In the words of the party that nominated him, he has “unprecedented support from the businesses and trade unions”. Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria have accused him of being linked to Delyan Peevski, the leader of MRF – New Beginning and said that the majority in Parliament should pull out the nomination “if it wants to be mature”, to use the words of CC-DB deputy Ivaylo Mirchev. CC-DB have also blamed Karadimov for the glitches in the October 2024 parliamentary election – of which he was in charge in his capacity as innovations minister in the then cabinet – but he dismissed the criticism. Karadimov’s response was that “it causes concern when politicians say that representatives of the executive power branch are responsible for counting ballots in the elections”.

Earrlier on Friday, GERB leader Boyko Borissov said he had asked BSP - Unified Left to come out and publicly defend their nomination by Rosen Karadimov - or else GERB will not support him. Borissov insisted that they should explain why they are proposing him, who he is and why they are backing him. “And then, as they stand behind our candidates, we will vote for him. But if they don't explain, or if MRF - New Beginning supports him, we will be against,” he stressed.
