Extra Lv 223 Mln to Be Provided for Education in 2017

Sofia, October 4 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said an extra 223 million leva will be provided for education in 2017.

After meeting with representatives of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions, Borissov said the government can afford this on the back of 1.6 billion leva in extra revenues collected by the revenue agencies, the Interior Ministry, the State Agency for National Security and the prosecuting magistracy.

The Prime Minister also said: "The drafting of the budget is at a rather advanced stage, so the Finance Minister and I decided that education, being a key priority, can be allocated the extra funds."

Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov attended the meeting with the trade union.

Union of Bulgarian Teachers President Yanka Takeva noted that 126 million leva of the additional funding would break down as follows: 100 million leva for salaries and 26 million leva for a rise in the minimum salary as of January 1, 2017. The average rise will be an estimated 10 per cent.
