The leaders of Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB), Kiril Petkov, Asen Vassilev, Bozhidar Bozhanov, Atanas Atanassov, and the leader of the MECh party, Radostin Vassilev, discussed here on Tuesday the possibilities for forming a government and Parliament's legislative programme. The meeting is part of the CC-DB coalition's initiative to develop the legislative programme of the 51st National Assembly.

During the meeting Asen Vassilev presented the main legislative initiatives set out in the declaration proposed earlier by the coalition, which calls for the creation of a "cordon sanitaire" (sanitary cordon) around MRF-New Beginning leader Delyan Peevski.

Vassilev recalled the main legislative initiatives related to the election of a new prosecutor general by a Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) with an expired term in office, banning a SJC an expired mandate from making key, long-term personnel decisions, legislative initiatives to fight corruption and money laundering, which ensure that persons sanctioned for serious corruption offences by partner countries of Bulgaria cannot receive and dispose of public funds, the adoption of the anti-corruption reforms envisaged in the Recovery and Resilience Plan - an anti-corruption commission, the Personal Bankruptcy Act. Vassilev pointed out that There Is Such a People has asked to have the Election Code amended so as to clear the so-called "dead souls" from lists of eligible voters.

Radostin Vassilev raised the issue of the election of a Parliament chair, who will work for the adoption of anti-corruption legislation. "I am deeply sceptical that GERB and MRF will work for the adoption of anti-corruption legislation. With people involved in corruption, it is very difficult to make anti-corruption reforms in Bulgaria," Vassilev added. He pointed out that his party supports the idea of the measures concerning the SJC and the election of a new prosecutor general. "We will support the anti-corruption measures even if you are in coalition with GERB or MRF," Vassilev said. For his part, Kiril Petkov assured him that CC-DB will be consistent in its actions, to which Radostin Vassilev replied: "Great, so we are headed towards elections. We will never enter into a coalition with GERB - MRF," he said.

During the meeting questions were raised related to the Recovery and Resilience Plan in its part concerning the energy sector. Radostin Vassilev insisted on the abandonment of this plan's energy part and on the nationalisation of Lukoil, on changes in the gambling legislation. He raised the issue of introducing electronic remote voting. "We have the capacity in the private sector for the State to create remote electronic voting, as well as for changes in the Election Code," Radostin Vassilev said.
